I am trying to quit snus. I have used the tobacco product more or less constantly since I was 14 years old, and it has been the most constant addiction for years and years.
I am quitting it through cutting down the use of it, and Melinda told me I should use pieces of ginger to put under my lip as a substitute. And I did, and it works quite well. Not only does it work, but it is very healthy. It has anti inflammatory properties, is great for you teeth and gums, great for the gut flora and so on.
As I started to use less snus and more ginger I did notice the side effects and withdrawal symptoms from using less tobacco and getting less nicotine than before. I was a bit more annoyed, a head ache, upset stomach, raised heart rate. You know. Traditional withdrawal stuff. But it haven’t went away. It didn’t get better as it should have. My heart rate have been higher, my stomach have been more upset and I have had a persistent head ache. I discovered why today.
I have been using up to 30+ grams of raw ginger a day. I have chopped it up in pieces and put it up my lip and just eaten it after a little while. the great internet tells me that one should be careful exceeding more than between 4-8 grams of ginger (sources varies a bit, but this seemed to be the general amount they talked about). I have eaten several times that amount every day for about three weeks now. Just since yesterday I have ingested around 40 grams. *que facepalm*
So, I have to cut down on my use of ginger, it seems.
