As a parent, my job is to help my children learn to take responsibility or claim ownership of their lives.
What does that mean?
Ownership of what?
Ownership of their feelings, their thoughts, their behaviour, their attitudes, their choices, their values, desires, decisions, relationships, grades, room, nutrition, everything.
I like to think that this starts with understanding the principles upon which we want to build our homes.
By principles, I am thinking about what we would consider to be some pretty fundamental, perhaps universal truths which influence human behaviour.
We do not necessarily invent principles.
Generally, they already exist, right?
We discover them, and then we do our best to make our actions align with them, because principles lead to certain behaviours which lead to certain outcomes.
See the cause and effect relationship here between our principles, our behaviour,s and the outcomes that we want to experience within our families.
