Taoism: Good luck, bad luck, good luck, good sound, and good luck.
This Taoist perspective emphasises equanimity, recognising the cyclical nature of events and the interconnectedness of all things, often represented by the Yin and Yang symbol.
The story describes a farmer whose horse runs away (bad luck), but then returns with a herd of wild horses (good luck). His son breaks his leg while taming a horse (bad luck), but is then spared from military conscription because of his injury (good luck). The farmer’s consistent response to each event is, “Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?“
