This week I will talk about hobbies. I am in the progress of trying out a few new hobbies, and it made me start to think about the hobbies I have had through my life. I will speak a bit about each of them in the coming days. Today I am gonna tell you about the latest hobby I am trying out: Drawing.Β
I have never been very good at drawing or painting. I did okay in arts&crats class in school, but I never excelled in any way. But after I started having issues with my arm, I completely stoped all kinds of drawing, writing and painting. I figured I would never draw much again because of my arm and nerve damage and such after surgeries on it. Then I realised the other day that those reasons are exactly why I should start to draw again. I have less fine motor skills in my hand than I used to, detail work is much harder, I have permanent trembling and less sensitivity. All these things can get a bit better through training. And holding a pencil and draw careful lines and details sounds just like what I need. So I found a couple of pencils I had, I took a notebook and found a βHow to drawβ tutorial on YouTube. So now I am spending time everyday trying to draw different shapes. Triangles, squares and circles for now. Just to get the basics of how to draw various lines in. It is frustratingly difficult to do, but I find it very fun and interesting. Itβs strange to feel a sense of accomplishment from drawing a nice triangle. Even more strange to feel accomplished when I have drawn a single line, and look at it and think βNICE!β. This is something I will continue to do even if I donβt continue with it as a hobby. I want to get better at using my arm, and these kinds of careful, meticulous things seems like a good way to start rebuilding some control of the hand again.Β
I am adding the first page of shapes that I drew (using a 2B pencil for the reading connoisseur out there) and my attempts at drawing triangles, squares and circles. Circles are horribly difficult to do, so I figure I need to spend some more time drawing only them. Trying out various positioning of the hand, how to hold the pencil and other things. Yes, I am trying to learn as I am a two year old holding a crayon for the first time. That is what I need to do, and I believe that is how I best can learn how to draw. Hopefully things will improve with some practice and (a lot) of horribly drawn circles.Β
