Mirrors have an unfortunate habit of showing us only one version of ourselves.
The tired one.
The older one.
The one who notices another grey hair before noticing the smile lines earned from laughing.
But people are terrible mirrors.
We remember ourselves as we were.
Our friends remember us at our best.
Our children remember us as home.
Perhaps the mirror is not too small.
Perhaps one reflection could never contain an entire person.
If your reflection feels unfamiliar, ask someone who loves you what they see.
Odds are, they will describe someone much kinder than the mirror ever could.
