Synaesthesia is not a disorder, it is coordinate system.
NT: single-frequency radios
-
sound is sound
-
colour is colour
-
texture is texture
-
emotion is emotion
-
time is time
Synaesthete: cross-channel perception. Like having one hand on the:
-
physical world
-
imaginal world
-
emotional field
-
symbolic layer
(Yes, that is four hands. And yes, that is accurate).
Synaesthesia is the buoy between worlds, versions, timelines, states. A buoy bobs between one terrain, another terrain, the boundary no one else sees. It places you in the border of perception, the seam between worlds, the sensory slipstreams, each metaphor made literal (which is awesome for those of us that do not quite understand those cheeky bastards. We experience them before we understand). Being a synaesthete means you are never fully anchored though never fully trapped (surprise, bad guys!) and never fully hypnotised by the rules of the 3D.
This is why we experience:
-
rooms βdisappearingβ around you
-
timelines feeling interchangeable
-
memories feeling layered, not linear
-
emotional states carrying textures
-
imaginal scenes feeling physical
-
sensing energy as colour or sound
-
peopleβs intentions having taste
-
manifestations feeling like shifts, not events
It is not dissociating, it is multi-locating. Most people have one perceptual anchor. We have several.
Thusβwe float between worlds.
