꩜ Wellness (?)

The Cambridge Dictionary states that: wellness is the state of being healthy, especially when it is something that you actively try to achieve.

No where do they say that it is filtered-glow performative Gwyneth-esque clones doing headstands on a moonlit cliff (all while burning a candle that smells like their vagina).

Curated Enlightenment (or oat-milk latte, no-foam perfectionism) is a place where gas on the yoga mat is mocked and being heavier than a US size 4 means that you are not “healthy”.

I say “nah” to the toxic spiritual capitalism. It made me give up practising because I knew I would never look like the instructor in front of the room (NB: yes, I am certified to teach). My mat would be covered in cat fur, and my leggings always had holes in the crotch.

Always.

My body loves to move. I have denied her the ability to do so out of my perceptions and fear. I would tell others to show up to the mat even if they felt crappy… “Maybe strive for better?” I would say. Not GREAT or GOOD… just better.

Not rejection of reality – an evolution of now.

Crappy to less crappy.

Shake out that messy mat, wear boxer shorts, your SpongeBob shirt and know that you are fabulous. You are home in yourself.

Get your Jessamyn on and breathe your own truth.
