I had my first day at Wolt yesterday. I was a bit nervous about it, I have to admit, but there was also excitement. This is something I have been waiting to start doing for a long time. The process getting started isn’t as straightforward as one would perhaps think. You have to send in so many different types of documentation. Everything from passport to driving license and to details about the vehicle you’re using has to be put in on the app, checked out and verified, contracts has to be signed. It’s just a whole lot more than I would have guessed at first.Β

I do understand why it is so though. They have to be certain people are ho they are and that nothing illegal is done. It also have to do with the insurance of their employees and the things they carries should anything go wrong.Β

But I had finally gotten all my documents in order, ordered the food bag and was ready to start.Β

The weather was horrible – which meant that the chance of a busy evening was high. And the prognoses were indeed correct. It took less than one minute from going online and register as β€œactive” before we were on our way towards the first pick-up for the night. Or afternoons the correct term as it was 4pm. But it’s already pitch black outside here by then, so it feels like night.Β

One benefit from doing deliveries with a car, is that you will be offered deliveries that is a bit farther away, and thus will be better paid. We had a few of those yesterday, and I felt driving around the outskirts of town was quite pleasant. Less traffic, less people in the road not wearing wearing reflectors, but wearing all black clothing. Yeah, there were a couple of times I was surprised by a person suddenly appearing in my head lights. I hope people will get better at getting their reflectors out as the winter progresses.Β

Anyways. The app system that Wolt use are easy enough to understand and work with. You get a *dingdingding* and an offer to pick up something somewhere. You press β€œaccept” and you are given the directions in your preferred map app. When you have picked up the order, you click β€œpicked up”, and you are given the directions to the recipient. The order contains all you need of information to find the right house, apartment and person. It’s quite smooth. When the food is delivered and you have pressed β€œdelivery completed” you simply wait for the next *dingdingding* to sound on your phone.Β

With the weather being what it was, there weren’t many long waits between the orders. With most of them we got a new order moments after delivery had been completed.Β

The system and the entire concept seems to work well, and it was quite enjoyable doing the work. I didn’t really expect anything else, but I often get a bit nervous and stressed at first doing things like this the first times. I worry about messing up, not understanding how to do things, disappointing people who are waiting for their food or items. I hate to be the person that ruins someones evening. Luckily everything went smooth, without a single mishap or accident. Everyone got their deliveries and most of the customers even put in a tip to me. That was an aspect I hadn’t really considered much here.Β

All in all, the evening was, as I said, enjoyable, the system and the entire process easy to follow, and the app worked without any issues. I am looking forward to continue my deliveries, and are curious to see how it will turn out.
